How to print these calendars
Open the PDF, choose Print, set the scale to 100% and match the orientation to the page. That is the whole job on most printers. The notes below cover the handful of settings that go wrong, and the tricks worth knowing once it works.
1. Open the calendar page and download the PDF
Pick the month, year and style you want from the calendar list and press the download button. The file saves straight to your device — there is no account step and nothing to install. Files are a few dozen kilobytes each, so it is instant even on a slow connection.
2. Print from a reader rather than a preview pane
Open the downloaded file in a PDF reader, or in a browser tab, and choose Print. Printing from an email preview or a chat attachment view is where most scaling problems start, because those viewers re-render the page at their own size.
3. Set the scale to 100%
Print at 100% scale if your printer can manage it. If the outer edges of the grid get clipped, switch to Fit to printable area in Acrobat, or Scale to fit in Preview and Chrome. Each calendar keeps a wide outer margin for exactly this reason, so fitting to page costs you almost no grid.
4. Turn headers and footers off
Browser print dialogs stamp the page URL and today’s date along the top and bottom by default. In Chrome and Edge, open More settings and clear the Headers and footers checkbox. In Safari, clear Print headers and footers.
5. Match the orientation
Most styles here are landscape, because a wide day square is easier to write in. Botanical Line is portrait. Print dialogs usually read this from the file, but if the calendar comes out sideways, set the orientation by hand to match the preview image on the calendar’s page.
Printing on A4 instead of Letter
A4 is slightly taller and narrower than US Letter. Choose Fit to page and the calendar scales down by roughly 6%, which is invisible on a wall: the grid stays square and the margins even out. Nothing needs to be redrawn and no content is lost.
Printing one month from a full-year pack
The full-year files hold twelve pages, one month per page, in calendar order. To print a single month, enter its number in the print dialog’s page range — January is page 1, September is page 9, December is page 12. To print the whole year on six sheets, print double-sided on the long edge.
Tricks worth knowing
- Cardstock and a laminator turn any month into a dry-erase board. One laminated month written on with a dry-erase marker lasts the whole year.
- Two pages per sheet makes a compact planner. Date numbers stay readable down to about half size.
- Enlarge to 11 by 17 at a copy shop for a noticeboard. Every file is vector line art, so the lines stay crisp at any size. Bold Primary is the style drawn for it.
- Save ink with Classic Grid. It is almost entirely hairlines and black text, so a page costs a fraction of one with filled bands and tinted columns.
- Print a spare if the calendar is going somewhere people write on it. It is cheaper than reprinting a month you have already filled in.
Printing from a phone, iPad or Chromebook
Download the PDF first, then open it in the Files app, Books, or your downloads folder and print from there. Printing straight from a browser tab on a mobile device sometimes re-renders the PDF at the wrong scale and clips the grid.
